We been ROBBED!
Well, technically our bank was robbed. Someone in Richmond VA got lucky and used the account number of Pat’s debit card to do a little shopping at WallyWorld. They made two $250 cash withdrawals, too, apparently Wal*Mart lets you get cash without a PIN (unless the thief got lucky and guessed that, too?)
This all took place in one day, while the card was in Pat’s possession here in NJ. The bank’s crack security squad caught the first charges right away and called us, but they still hit our account again (at WaWa, over $200 of Twinkies?) before the card was canceled. Luckily I check the account often and I saw the WaWa charges today. Also noticed that we hadn’t been credited yet. I called and they said they’d take care of it.
Good thing I keep that buffer in my checking account, all told they took over $800, that could bounce a few checks!

That happened to Steve a couple of years ago. He even knew who did it (an employee), but the bank would have had to press charges and didn’t, so he got away with it.

Identity theft is becoming more common these days. A friend of mine in DC just recently was victim to it. At least you still caught it!!

Yikes! That is so scary! Glad it wasn’t thousands of dollars!

You’re not getting stuck for that money are you?

They credited back all the fraudulent charges (after a few phone calls) so all’s well (although Pat is still short one ATM card.)
