Stupid celebrity tricks
I was happy to hear that OJ won’t get his chance to disgust us all even more than he already has. Also, I don’t know what to think about Michael Richards’ racist rant the other day. I saw the “apology” he made on Letterman, and it was so full of attempted spin I was falling over dizzy.
The thing is, I can’t possibly imagine, even in intense anger, ever using racist terms like that. I just don’t buy that people say things when they’re angry/drunk that they don’t mean at all. In the video Richards seemed to backtrack a bit and try to make it seem he was trying to shock the audience, making it part of the act, and it’s clear from his appearance on Letterman that even though he knows he offended people, he thinks in the end his words will lead toward more dialog or something. That’s just ass-covering. Thinking/speaking those words, especially in anger, during a comedy show… no excuse for that. Stop the spin, simply say you’re sorry, and hope that people are willing to pay to see you again. I just get the feeling his real concern is his career. Which, I guess, he should be worried about, huh?

I’ve lost all interest in Richards’ career (such as it’s been post-”Seinfeld”, that’s for sure. And thank goodness they’ve cancelled the OJ madness!

I think he’s become one of the D-list celebs ala Kathy Griffin. If he’s doing a comedy show and people are looking for something to do that night, they’ll go see him, because, what the heck, why not. But now, there’s a “why not.”
