Life- out of my control

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

Andy’s home. He’s been having some residual pain from this incident back in November, so I got him a doctor appointment for tomorrow morning. He doesn’t have class on Monday till around 7:30pm, so Pat picked him up from school Friday and the plan is for me to bring him back to school tomorrow afternoon.

Except it’s snowing, and they’re calling for up to 6″ or so. I know it doesn’t seem like much to some of you- but I won’t drive when the roads aren’t clear. My car wasn’t built for snow, the back end goes all over the road.

So we’re in a holding pattern at the moment. I’m hoping the snow will stop early, the roads will clear, and I can reschedule Andy for an afternoon appointment (I know they told me they had an opening around 3pm when I called Friday.) Then Pat can get him back to school tomorrow night, he only misses one class.

More likely, unfortunately, I can’t get him to the doc till Tuesday, so he’ll miss at least 2 classes, possibly more. But health first of course, so he’ll stay here till we get him seen. Hopefully his teachers will be reasonable like they were last semester.

For Andy’s sake, I hope this medical issue gets fixed up soon. He’s being so cool about it but I know he’s uncomfortable. I want to make it all better, you know?

Also- I have Tim scheduled for his annual physical tomorrow, too. But that’s not a big deal, I can reschedule it easily enough.

Damn, I hate when it snows when I have stuff to do!

I just edited this photo of Tim using the online editing tool Picnik. Free, no need to register, easy to use. For basic quick edits (like resizing and color adjustments) it looks like a good option!

Tim’s New Glasses

He’s so funny, noticing all the detail he wasn’t seeing. I don’t remember being so thrilled getting glasses at his age, but it’s fun to watch him!

Happy Valentines Day!

lilheart.jpg Happy Valentines Day! Mine started off nicely indeed when I got a very sweet & special email from my guy (sorry, the details are private! And git yer minds out the gutter, yo.)

We got our snow day. Or rather, ice day. It’s mostly sleeting, in fact the poor dog came back in the house with little ice pellets stuck in her fur. She went straight to the heating vent when I let her in. The wind is blowing pretty hard, too.

Unfortunately Pat had to go into work for a big internet conference (now, for me, I think, we have internet. Why not do the internet conference from here?) But I guess a bunch of NJ people had to actually be in a room together for this one. Besides, don’t want the Swedes and Germans involved to think the wussy Americans couldn’t get the job done because of a little ice storm!

Tim & Nick are hanging out happily. Nick on the internet in the other room, Tim watching the Tivo’d Westminster Dog Show. I’ll join him in a little while, just hanging out and watching the doggies run around.

A chat with my son

Andy is a man of few words. Just how few is evidenced by his side of an AIM conversation we had yesterday. I edited out my side- because the beauty is in his replies. Notice the longest statement he makes is about football…

(AIM names changed obviously- please don’t try to find me by adding “mom” to your buddy list!)

Just a little snow

Monday, January 29th, 2007

But it was enough to cause a delayed opening this morning. The roads were fine, but I guess they were a bit icy this morning when the high school buses were running, and after a small debacle 10 days ago, when there really were dangerous conditions yet school wasn’t delayed, they played it safe. And when the high school is delayed, everyone is delayed.

At least it gave Nick the chance to wash the dishes he so slyly avoided washing last night! I guess he thought if he ignored them they’d disappear, and in days gone by he may have been right. But in this case, they would have been right there waiting for him at the end of the school day.

Now I’m quickly running down my todo list. Schedule the dog for her rabies shot and a haircut. Get Nick’s yearbook baby booster in the mail. Find and order online the weird little lightbulb my desk lamp needs. Exercise a bit.

Last week was nuts, fortunately this week the stressors seem to have gone away and things are back to normal!

Lost in translation

Pat’s in Stockholm on business this week. Neither of us had ever traveled abroad, and I admit I’m jealous. But I comforted myself with the knowledge that Sweden in January is cold and dark. Plus, according to the airline, his 7+ hour flight didn’t even include a meal! I can’t sleep on planes, the food service is what keeps me happy.

So this morning I wake up to the following in my email:

… What SAS meant when they said no food service was that you got unlimited drinks, a snack, a choice of dinner between chicken, salmon, and pasta, another snack, and a light breakfast of rolls, ham, cheese, and yogurt.

The service was really good and you were given metal flatware (including a butter knife) and glass glasses for your drinks.

At least it’s still cold and dark.
