Good stuff

Friday, March 30th, 2007

Spring break begins in a few minutes.

It’s really nice out, might have to head down the shore and smell that sea air this weekend.

Andy’s coming home this weekend.

I’ve lost 4 pounds.

All our teeth are clean and healthy.

The house is in relatively good shape.

I’ve started to plan some new landscaping.

Our credit cards are paid off.

This is really funny.

Today I hugged my nine year old son

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

A mom in a shore town here in NJ killed her nine year old son yesterday. My nine year old son was in the room with me when the story came on the local news.

I started tearing up and went over and gave him a hug. I’d been washing dishes and my hands were damp. He let me hug him for a second then squealed “Ah, you’re all wet!”

He started wiggling and squirming around, I laughed and let him go.

He asked “What was that hug for?” We hug each other often. It’s not unusual for him to just wander over for a hug out of the blue, multiple times a day. But he knew, there was something more to this hug.

I didn’t know what to say, so I told him I loved him and sent him off to play.

Yep, it’s March

26-degrees.jpg Hard to believe that two days ago I was running around taking pictures of flowers while wearing a t-shirt.

The weather is just nasty today! It’s been sleeting, not snowing, but enough sleet to pile up as if it were snow. Figures today was the day Andy was supposed to take his road test. He and Pat even went to the MVC office, but they canceled the test.

I’ve been playing with my new site a bit today. I’m going to leave this blog right where it is, and use the new one for posts that are less personal, I guess. I don’t know- I have lots of ideas but the hard part for me is narrowing it all down and really focusing enough to get from A –> B. When I’m working for someone else, I have no problem buckling down and getting things done, but I tend to slack way off when it’s for myself!

More daylight!

I could not be happier about the earlier change to Daylight Savings Time. Winter is simply not good for me. I don’t like the cold, and even more than that, I don’t like the dark.

If it were up to me all those school kids would wait for the morning bus in darkness so I could have an extra hour of daylight in the evening to get me through the winter. Yes, year ’round daylight savings time would suit me just fine.

But I suppose I’ll just have to be satisfied with the extra time we do get, one of the few things Congress has done in the past 6 years that I agree with. Plus, it’s funny watching the slightly panicked news stories about how IT departments are going to have to work all weekend to make sure the unexpected time change doesn’t cause a mini Y2K with all their software (especially funny because, as you may recall, the actual Y2K was pretty much a non-event, software crisis-wise.)

chocolate covered ants

Thursday, March 8th, 2007

Today I joined Tim’s class on a field trip to a local environmental center. We were supposed to learn how to tap maple trees but it was too cold (as determined by the school principal, apparently) to stand around outside, so instead we sat in a little hut (some of these kids bundled in snowpants and boots to keep warm because we were told “outside no matter what!”) We did learn how to tap maples, but we didn’t get to see any actual tapping.

The presenter was good, he had the kids focused and laughing as he told a few tall tales. For example, did you know that chocolate sprinkles are actually tiny little chocolate covered ants? Well, I knew that because my dad told me, but apparently it was news to these kids, go figure. He told them to listen closely next time they have ice cream and they’ll hear wee little screams when they bite down.

As my co-chaperon said- you just know these kids are gonna do that!

No Fun

I hate when my google reader tells me this.

To nap or to do?

PSYCH!!!
daffodil.jpg

That warm, sunny weather we had Saturday was just a cruel joke. It’s 19 degrees. The wind is nasty, I keep hearing branches hitting my roof (small ones, so far anyway.)

I got some laundry done, a few things crossed off the todo list. Right now I’m thinking a power nap sounds really good before the kids get home. But maybe that’s not the right direction to head. Might be better to take another look at that todo list and tackle something else. Something more physical than walking a load of laundry down the hall. I’ll see what I come up with, but yeah, power nap is probably not the answer!
